Our Beliefs

The faith of the Ahl al-Bayt a.s — Usul al-Din, the Twelve Imams, Karbala, and the sacred supplications and ziyarat that shape the life of a mu'min.

Section 1

Usul al-Din

The five roots of religion — the foundation upon which all belief rests.

1

Tawheed

The Oneness of Allah

Allah is One — utterly unique, without partner, without body, without likeness. He is the First without beginning and the Last without end. Belief in Tawheed means recognising that all power, sustenance, life and death belong to Him alone, and worship is due to none besides Him.

Qur'an

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ · اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ — Say: He is Allah, the One; Allah, the Eternal Refuge. (Surah al-Ikhlas 112:1–2)

Hadith

Imam Ali a.s: “The foremost in religion is the recognition of Him; the perfection of His recognition is to affirm Him; the perfection of affirming Him is to declare His Unity.” (Nahj al-Balagha, Sermon 1)

2

Adl

Divine Justice

Allah is absolutely just. He never wrongs anyone, never punishes without cause, and never demands what is beyond a soul's capacity. His justice underpins the moral order of creation and the accountability of the Day of Judgment.

Qur'an

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ — Indeed Allah does not wrong even the weight of an atom. (Surah al-Nisa 4:40)

Hadith

Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq a.s: “Justice is sweeter than water tasted by one dying of thirst. How vast is justice, however small a portion of it.” (Al-Kafi)

3

Nubuwwat

Prophethood

Allah sent 124,000 prophets to guide humanity, beginning with Adam a.s and sealed with Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w. — the mercy to the worlds. Every prophet was infallible (ma'sum), truthful, and delivered the message of Tawheed.

Qur'an

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَالَمِينَ — We have not sent you but as a mercy to all the worlds. (Surah al-Anbiya 21:107)

Hadith

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w.: “I have been sent only to perfect noble character.” (Bihar al-Anwar)

4

Imamat

Divine Leadership

After the Prophet s.a.w.w., divine guidance continues through twelve infallible Imams from his Ahl al-Bayt a.s — beginning with Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib a.s and ending with Imam al-Mahdi a.t.f.s. The Imam is the proof of Allah on earth, the interpreter of revelation, and the axis of guidance.

Qur'an

إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا — Allah only desires to keep away all impurity from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you a thorough purification. (Surah al-Ahzab 33:33)

Hadith

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w.: “I leave among you two weighty things: the Book of Allah and my Ahl al-Bayt. Hold fast to them and you shall never go astray.” (Hadith al-Thaqalayn)

5

Qiyamat

The Day of Resurrection

Every soul will be raised, every deed weighed, and perfect justice established. Belief in the Hereafter transforms life — it makes patience possible in tragedy, and restraint possible in power.

Qur'an

فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ · وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ — Whoever does an atom's weight of good shall see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil shall see it. (Surah al-Zalzalah 99:7–8)

Hadith

Imam Ali a.s: “Today is the day of action, not reckoning; tomorrow is the day of reckoning, not action.” (Nahj al-Balagha, Sermon 42)

Section 3

Karbala & Ashura

The eternal stand of Imam Husain a.s against tyranny — a covenant renewed each Muharram.

On the 10th of Muharram, 61 AH, on the burning plains of Karbala, Imam Husain ibn Ali a.s — grandson of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w. — was martyred along with seventy-two of his family and companions. They stood against the tyranny of Yazid, refusing to legitimize injustice, even at the cost of their lives.

The blood of Karbala became the eternal seal of Islam. Every drop reminds humanity: dignity is greater than survival; truth is greater than power. We mourn — not in despair, but in living covenant with the mission of Imam Husain a.s.

Timeline — 1 Muharram to 20 Safar

  1. 1 Muharram 61 AH

Imam Husain a.s reaches the plains of Karbala with his family and 72 companions.

  2. 2 Muharram

Tents pitched. The land is purchased from the tribe of Bani Asad.

  3. 3 Muharram

Umar ibn Sa'd arrives with 4,000 soldiers of Yazid's army.

  4. 7 Muharram

Water is cut off from the camp of Imam Husain a.s. Thirst begins.

  5. 9 Muharram — Tasu'a

Hazrat Abbas a.s secures one night's respite for worship and Munajat.

  6. 10 Muharram — Ashura

Imam Husain a.s and his 72 companions martyred. Tents burned; the family taken captive.

  7. 11 Muharram

The caravan of captives — led by Bibi Zainab a.s and Imam Zayn al-Abidin a.s — begins the journey to Kufa.

  8. 1 Safar

The captives arrive in the court of Yazid in Damascus. The historic sermons of Bibi Zainab a.s and Imam Sajjad a.s expose the tyrant.

  9. 20 Safar — Arbaeen

Forty days after Ashura. The blessed head of Imam Husain a.s is reunited with his holy body at Karbala. Millions walk in remembrance.

The Significance of Azadari

Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq a.s: “Whoever weeps over Husain a.s, or causes another to weep, or feigns weeping in reverence — Paradise is made obligatory upon him.” (Bihar al-Anwar 44:288)

Imam al-Rida a.s: “The month of Muharram was a month in which the people of Jahiliyyah forbade bloodshed — then in it our blood was made lawful, our sanctity violated, our children and women captured. So let your grief for Husain a.s be your grief, and your joy on that day be no joy.” (Amali al-Saduq)

Azadari is not sorrow for its own sake — it is the living school of Karbala, teaching every generation that faith without action against oppression is empty, and remembrance is the seed of revival.
